Yoshimitsu defeats her and drops out of the tournament to rescue the doctor after learning his location. Also, Kunimitsu, Yoshimitsu's former Manji Clan second-in-command, returns to the tournament in order to steal the clan's tachi. In Tekken 2, Yoshimitsu learns that Bosconovitch has been kidnapped by the Mishima Zaibatsu and enters the second Tekken tournament to rescue him. Grateful for his help, he tells Bosconovitch that he may call on him whenever he needs help. Though Yoshimitsu loses his arm during the operation, Bosconovitch helps him escape and fits him with a mechanical prosthetic replacement. Bosconovitch's lab in order to steal his Eternal Energy device.
His base disrespect for the sumo code infuriates Yoshimitsu, who defeats him. During the tournament, Yoshimitsu learns of Ganryu, a sumo wrestler whose disrespectful attitude in the ring cost him his promotion to the rank of yokozuna. In the game's story, Yoshimitsu enters the first tournament as a decoy so as to allow other Manji to steal the tournament's funds unobserved. Upon the inauguration of a new leader, his or her predecessor is ritually sacrificed, and the blade absorbs the person's power and skill. The clan is dedicated to a mission to help the weak and fight the oppression. His title in the original trilogy is Mechanized Space Ninja.Yoshimitsu's first appearance was in 1994's original Tekken. Kunimitsu's story in Tekken 2 reveals that Yoshimitsu's blade is passed down through the Manji Clan's leaders. The outfit was also used as the design for Yoshimitsu in the 2010 live action Tekken film. Yoshimitsu's most popular design seems to be his Tekken 3 default outfit, as it has appeared in the most games: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken Advance, and Street Fighter X Tekken. Based from win quotes in Street Fighter X Tekken the curse of his sword seems to be of some renown since many fighters such as Jin, Kazuya, Ryu and Akuma all seem to know the curse of his sword while some fighters like Hwoarang also sense supernatural powers within it. In Tekken 6 he gains a second sword and a drastic change in gameplay. Though Kunimitsu got the chance to actually use it in gameplay in Tekken 2. Yoshimitsu was one of only two characters to carry a weapon in Tekken, the other being Kunimitsu.

This has led fans to speculate about the connection between the two series and the history of the character. Additionally, an analogous character bearing the same name, weapon, clan, and background was later carried over into Namco’s Soul Series of fighting games, making his debut in Soul Calibur and once again returning for all of the sequels.
Due to his unique look and fighting style he has proven popular amongst fans and he has returned for all subsequent sequels, becoming one of only four characters to do so, the others are Paul Phoenix, Nina Williams, and Heihachi Mishima.
