So, probably the latest way to find Out the Mac address is to pull down the ChromeCast app for your particular phone, whether it is an iphone or android phone. When you go to configure your ChromeCast. The MAC address will be listed in the details on the app itself.
Quoting: 'If your router has MAC Address filtering enabled, you'll need to add the MAC address of your Chromecast to the list of filtered devices. Your Chromecast’s MAC id is listed at the bottom of the setup app when going through initial setup.'
I hope you realize that this is like saying 'If you are having trouble with your e-mail, simple notify the tech department at '. Writebac is correct - something else needs to be done (by you, Google), even if it is simply printing the Mac address on the device.

I don't know how that other moron received the best answer when yours is the only solution that provides the mac address BEFORE setting up the device. I just bought 2 chromecasts and ran into this issue setting them up. The chromecast is literally the first wifi device I have ever come across that did not provide me with a physical mac address (in the box or on the device itself) in order to use authentication on my router. Combined with the fact that it can't connect to a hidden SSID network already makes it 0 for 2 with me. Again, the first time I have ever come across a wifi device that does not connect to hidden SSID networks. Hopefully it actually works and I can get it out of the setup stage without going 0 for 3.

When you go to configure your ChromeCast. The MAC address will be listed in the details on the app itself. The old way I did it previously, by shutting down Mac filtering and watching for the new mac address on your router to appear, did help some people, so i thought it had value.
I would would have to say at this point, using the ChromeCast configuration app available for either android or iPhone is now the preferred method. Hope that helps!
